Often considered the pinnacle of the WRC calendar, Neste Rally Finland, the third round of the Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy (DDFT), is well underway here in Jyväskylä.

Local driver Max Vatanen leads the way going in to midday service and looks to be putting his superior experience to good use. After six stages he leads Osian Pryce by +2.2sec and Gus Greensmith by +17.3sec.

Vatanen, who is in his third season of the DDFT, made good use of his local knowledge to claim four of the six available scratch points, with Bernardo Sousa and Pryce sharing the rest.

Having performed consistently well in the opening rounds of 2016, Pryce was awarded the first instalment of Prize Drives after a podium finish in Poland. A strong finish here in Finland could mean the young Welshman doubles his winnings and may look forward to four events in the Drive DMACK Trophy Team in 2017.

Jon Armstrong of Northern Ireland, who topped the podium in Poland, hasn’t had the best start here in Finland. He rolled into retirement on stage five and needed to be recovered. With this, one of Pryce’s closest rivals for the second instalment of Prize Drives was neutralised. It’s far from plain sailing however as Vatanen is showing good form and is hot on Pryce’s heels.

Elsewhere in the Trophy, rookie drivers Oscar Solberg, Karen Patel and Nicolas Ciamin hold their own, setting respectable times and are never more than 45 seconds off the pace.
