Armstrong in Pole Position

Jon Armstrong extends his overall lead to 16.6sec ahead of Gus Greensmith as Osian Pryce follows just 1.4sec behind.

Armstrong is taking part in this year’s competition thanks to winning the last year’s Vatanen Touch Award, and a funded scholarship in the 2016 Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy. He took a further three stage wins on the second loop, taking his tally to six.

An interesting battle continues to develop between the British crews, with Welsh driver Pryce claiming another stage win and Englishman Greensmith never far behind.

Young French driver Nicolas Ciamin, who finished third in Portugal, finished the day on a positive note when he set the fastest time on the final stage.

It’s been a fast and furious opening day for the crews, but everyone is back in service and looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.
